Diyar Al Muharraq Announces Large Scale Sponsorship of Popular Muharraq Club

As a unique masterplanned city for the people of Bahrain, inspired by the Muharraqi culture and traditions, Diyar Al Muharraq today reaffirmed its commitment to the local community – and youth in particular – with the announcement of its sponsorship of the Muharraq Club, one of the Kingdom’s oldest and most popular sporting associations.

Present at the signing ceremony – held at Bait Abdullah Al Zayed, House of Bahrain Press Heritage in Muharraq – were the President of the General Organization of Youth and Sports (GOYS), Diyar Al Muharraq’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, the Chairman of the Muharraq Club, and players from the Muharraq Club.

The initiative is part of the development’s wider aim of promoting positive lifestyle change across the whole community, as well as within the development itself, whose all-inclusive vision offers housing across the income ranges.

Mr. Abdulhakeem Alkhayyat, Chairman of Diyar Al Muharraq, said: “As a Bahraini company with close ties to Muharraq, we are immensely proud to be associated with one of the Kingdom’s oldest and most prestigious sport clubs. This signing is a symbolic bond that signals the start of our relationship with the Muharraq Club, one that we are sure will be beneficial for the club, its existing players, the fans and the upcoming youth of Bahrain, many of whom have aspirations to become involved in sport.”

Mr. Aaref Hejres, Chief Executive Officer of Diyar Al Muharraq, added: “We aim to provide as many opportunities for the younger generation as we can, in order to develop the future talent of Bahrain, both through such community support and the many sporting facilities that we are developing within Diyar Al Muharraq. After today, I for one will be following the club’s successes even more closely from now on.”

Established in 1928, the Muharraq club has produced many players who subsequently represented the Kingdom of Bahrain in international competitions.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Ali Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Muharraq Club, said: “Diyar Al Muharraq’s generous support will ensure that the Muharraq club will go from strength to strength, building upon our success of recent years, allowing us to compete even more effectively in both local, regional and international competitions. What they are doing for the local community is significant and their support will help us to develop local talent coming up through the ranks in our youth academy. We would like to express our thanks and  appreciation to Diyar Al Muharraq for supporting the club and the local community.”

The highly successful club, which has a large and loyal following, is currently champion of the Bahrain’s Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa League, the King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup, and the Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup. Its basketball team won the local league in 2007, and the volleyball team has won over seven GCC championship titles in recent years.

The rich cultural heritage and traditions of Muharraq, and the location of the 12-square-kilometre development, naturally make Muharraq one of Diyar Al Muharraq’s prime areas of community focus, and the far-sighted developer understands the need for a concerted and continuous approach to the community.

Located on the northern shores of Muharraq, Diyar Al Muharraq will provide a cohesive mix of residential and commercial properties with housing opportunities for over 100,000 people in around 30,000 housing units.
