Diyar al Muharraq is highly commended in British expertise international awards
Scott Wilson recognised in Major Consultancy Project of the Year Category
Diyar Al Muharraq, Bahrain’s 12km-square mixed-use master-planned city and leading environmental developer, has been highly commended at the British Expertise Awards in London. Scott Wilson Group, Diyar Al Muharraq’s design and engineering consultancy specialising in providing sustainable and integrated planning for projects in the natural environment, received a Certificate of Commendation, presented by HRH The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO.
The British Expertise International Awards recognise excellence in design, planning, management and construction of overseas projects and support the continued outstanding success of UK professional services throughout the world. Previous winners of the prestigious award from the region have included Dubai Drydocks, Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island, The Wadi Hanifah Restoration Plan in Saudi Arabia, and the overall winner for 2009 the Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque.
Projects entering the Major Consultancy category must have a value of over GBP 2 million, and were judged on success and innovation, together with how challenging the development is to achieve. Judges, who included qualified architect The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO, also selected winners on providing value-for money, interpretation of design specifications, on time delivery and client satisfaction.
Diyar Al Muharraq’s CEO, Aaref Hejres, said: “Diyar Al Muharraq partners with the best consultants from around the world, and we are dedicated to raising the bar for standards of best practice in the real estate industry in the Kingdom of Bahrain. We have already received much interest from both Parliament and the Government of Bahrain for our reclamation and environmental protection initiatives, many of which are being adopted for the first time in the Kingdom through Diyar Al Muharraq. Diyar Al Muharraq is setting a benchmark in many ways, and the fact that we have been recognised by a prestigious body such as British Expertise is testament to this.”
Mr. Craig Thackray, Scott Wilson Project Manager who received the award in London, commented, “As the developer, Diyar Al Muharraq has devoted considerable resources to setting new standards in marine design, masterplanning and environmental protection, and Scott Wilson is proud to consult on a project which raises such standards in the region.”
Diyar Al Muharraq as a city comprises the widest range of property types and sizes of any development in Bahrain, underpinned by a masterplanned infrastructure that supports business growth and employment opportunities. It is truly a project that the Kingdom – and the wider region – can be proud of.
Scott Wilson have also developed a revolutionary environmental monitoring system specifically for Diyar Al Muharraq. Through DIANA, strategically placed environmental monitoring stations around the reclamation area provide specialised computer programs with a steady stream of data, which is analysed and compared against the set quality assurance standards and regulations. If these are breached, the system informs the operators and concerned regulatory bodies, such as the Directorate for Environmental Assessment and Planning (DEAP), for action, and saves both time and money.
With 30,000 properties housing over 120,000 people on completion, Diyar Al Muharraq’s construction is moving at a brisk pace with reclamation of Stage 1 nearing 97% completion. The development will offer a selection of freehold properties accessible to buyers across various income levels, and its extensive and varied indoor and outdoor leisure, commercial and retail facilities underpinned by world-class infrastructure will open up a new way of living for residents, and indeed all the people of Bahrain.
