The Public Bus Office of Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi has developed an integrated action plan to meet the requirements of public buses users during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The action plan, to be implemented at the beginning of the Holy Month, encompasses steps such as increase in the number of buses, new routes and change in bus schedules in line with the Iftar and prayer timings, besides a host of other initiatives.
The Bus Office realizes the importance of the Holy Month of Ramadan for public transport users and has planned the schedules accordingly for Abu Dhabi city and suburbs. The buses will operate every day starting 05:30am and 02:00am with a two-hour break between 6pm and 8pm. The schedules have been adjusted for lesser frequency during the afternoon off-peak hours and increased services during the peak hours in the mornings and late evenings.
During the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi will also participate in a series of social and cultural activities, including its association with the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Iftar programme for the third consecutive year. This involved increase in the frequency and number of public transport buses to 20 additional buses to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque from Mussafah, and the change in bus schedules in accordance with the Iftar and prayer timings during the Holy Month.
Food packs for Iftar will be distributed to public buses travellers to other cities and emirates like Dubai, Sharjah, Al Ruwais and liwa.
Emphasizing the plan, Mr. Saeed Mohammed Al-Hameli, General Manager of the Public Bus Office at DoT, said: “Our efforts at DoT are centred on enhancing the quality and efficiency of the public transport services for our users. This is part of our mandate to play an active role in the sustainable growth march and the urban development currently under way in the country.”
He added: “We are all set to start implementing the changes in the operational schedule in line with the timings and travellers need during the Holy Month of Ramadan.”
