ALBAWABA - Over the past couple of weeks, reports of horrific executions carried out by the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces against civilians have emerged from the western region of Darfur.

A report emerged on Tuesday, revealing that the RSF have killed at least nine based on their ethnicity as they fled the ongoing conflict in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, towards the town of Mellit.

As of May 10, the city of Darfur witnessed a surge in ravaging severe battles between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), resulting in the killing of dozens of people and severe damage to the infrastructure of the city.

The RSF is pressing forward with its attack to capture the city, which is already overwhelmed with displaced people, in defiance of regional and international pleas for restraint in attacks against civilians. They are also charged with deliberately using heavy weaponry to bombard densely populated areas, causing people to evacuate.

A victim's uncle, Mohamed Jedo, spoke to Sudan Tribune, saying that "a vehicle carrying civilians fleeing to Mellit was stopped by an RSF force in northern El Fasher." In front of their family, they shot and killed the nine young guys who had been forced out of the car.

The RSF presence on the route between El Fasher and Mellit has impeded people attempting to flee the troubled city. Eyewitnesses said that RSF members are torturing, killing, and detaining fleeing citizens under the guise of aiding armed groups, as well as extorting excessive amounts from drivers carrying people.

The RSF has been in charge of South, West, Central, and East Darfur, four of the five states in the Darfur area, since late last year. The army, armed groups, and the local populations defending El Fasher have all put up a fierce fight against their continuous RSF attempts to seize North Darfur.

Warplanes of the Sudanese Armed Forces reportedly conducted heavy bombings on RSF positions in eastern El Fasher, according to eyewitnesses. RSF anti-aircraft guns made an effort to counterattack, and ground fighting with other weaponry went on in the eastern section of the city, killing more civilians.
