The Gulf News reported Saturday that a rising number of Indians, mostly Keralites become unwary drug carriers of the Mumbai underworld and end up in the Saudi Arabian death row.

Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Thalmis Ahmed was quoted by the paper as saying that in the last month, most of the Indians who were beheaded in Saudi for drug trafficking were Keralites.

Meanwhile, India's Chief Minister E.K. Nayanar has appealed to Union Home Minister L.K. Advani to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.

Pointing out that the number of Indians being beheaded for drug offenses had shot up from one in 1998, to 11 in 1999 and 24 in 2000, he has called for immediate steps to curb the trend -- Albawaba.com
