Dubai Chamber to participate in Earth Hour

Exercise aims at involving the business community and the Chamber’s staff members in environmental protection initiatives

Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry is once again participating in the promotion of Earth Hour in Dubai on Saturday, March 28. The global initiative, spearheaded by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), will see an overwhelming response to the hourly power shutdown from 8.30pm to 9.30pm by the private and Government sectors as well as the general public in contributing to the combined call for reducing global warming.

This campaign, that comes as part of Dubai Chamber’s Corporate Social Responsibility, aims at involving the business community and the Chamber’s staff members in promoting community participation in environmental protection initiatives.

On its part, Dubai Chamber will join the over one billion people in conserving electricity and water on Earth Day by switching off lights and non-essential electrical appliances at its premises to affirm its support in raising awareness on the rationalization of energy and water consumption in order to protect planet Earth.

Said HE Eng Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, "In line with the Chamber’s strategic objectives of creating a favourable business environment, Dubai Chamber supports the Earth Hour initiative. We are participating for the second year running by ensuring that the lights of our building are switched off and we are also encouraging our staff to do the same at home. We hope to set an example for the business community and demonstrate how they can reduce costs in these challenging times while also helping to protect the environment.”

Buamim pointed out that this campaign not only supports the Chamber’s strategy of creating a stimulating work environment but also goes in line with its year-round campaign of saving hundreds of thousands of dirhams in the area of renewable energy and rationalization of water consumption, which in turn reduces the percentage of greenhouse gas emission considered the leading cause of global warming.
