As part of its corporate social responsibility initiative of 'Making it Our Business' breast cancer awareness programme, Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry has launched a number of activities specifically designed to enhance awareness and encourage screening among its network of government employees, clients, and customers during the month of October.
The MIOB anniversary activities began with the display of a giant pink ribbon on the Chamber’s building as a gesture of solidarity and to bring more attention to the cause. Educational collateral such as flyers and brochures were also distributed to staff members and clients. The Chamber’s website was also utilized to reach a wider audience.
Said Leena Al Abbas, Executive Director, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Dubai Chamber, “As representatives of Dubai’s business community we come together to support a valid and important community cause. Our participation in MIOB has allowed our organisation to break down taboos and increase awareness about breast cancer among our employees, their families and friends, as well as enhance communication across our departments while building team spirit and pride in our organisation.”
Added Leena, “Most importantly, the MIOB programme has helped
save lives be it through early detection or by the various follow-up activities we have in collaboration with our partners. We see this program as an important element of our Corporate Social Responsibility and we encourage other organisations to participate.”
Throughout the month of October, the Chamber will be involved in a wide range of activities that aim to raise awareness and support initiatives to combat breast cancer. Besides receiving messages on their Intranet, the staff members attended awareness workshops by the UAE Ministry of Health officials in addition to a free medical exam at the Chamber premises on October 8.
The Chamber staff are invited to learn more from doctors and sign up for Pink Breakfast & Bazaar on Thursday, October 22 to help raise funds for cancer treatment by purchasing gift items from the bazaar and by joining the breakfast (from 10am to 12pm) where a survivor will provide tips and advice and finally to participate in the BurJuman Walkathon on Friday, October 30.
