The Dubai Civil Defence Department has come up with a strategic way of battling the dangers of fire – by educating the public at Modhesh World. Through numerous interactive activities, the Department has launched a concerted effort to educate residents on their role in preventing accidents involving fire.

Supervisors at the zone in Modhesh World stress the need to raise awareness on the emergency number 997 that needs to be dialed in case of reporting fires. This would save a lot of time and provide the Civil Defence crucial information on the incident and how best to tackle the situation.

Visitors at Modhesh World are also educated about the use of extinguishers and the different types of extinguishers that are available. Fires caused by different substances need different kinds of extinguishers.  Supervisors try to give children and even adults the correct information on how to use fire extinguishers.

Fire extinguishers are marked by different colours. The black extinguisher contains carbon dioxide gas and is meant to extinguish fires caused by short circuits and electrical fires, while the beige color contains foam and is used to extinguish fires caused by oil, petroleum products and paint. The red colored extinguisher contains water and powder used for fires at home. This information is taught to children by coloring fire extinguishers where children color the extinguisher depending on the cause. The blue extinguisher is prohibited internationally and is only used by competent people and in particular situations.

More than 500 children a day visit Firefighter Salem’s Village. Here, they can watch animated films of Fireman Salem. The Animated films give tips and guidance and increase children's awareness about fire.
