Dubai Customs celebrates Arab Environment Day

Dubai Customs would celebrate today the Arab Environment Day, being observed on 14th October each year, by activating its continuous environment initiatives throughout the year, conducting a number of internal activities aiming at preserving the environment, enhancing the current efforts to realize sustainable development and pacing with UAE general trend.

Mr. Mansoor Buosaiba, Director of Administrative Affairs at Dubai Customs said, “Dubai Customs is keen to effectively take part in world, regional and local events as part of its social responsibility”.

“As observed each year, we join the Arab community in celebrating the Arab Environment Day. Our activities include this year awareness campaigns among customs employees to follow what might be helpful for preserving the environment within the Customs main building and different centers and locations. These include reducing use of papers, utilizing electronic solutions being provided to them, saving the power and maintain public health. Electronic screens have been prepared as part of such educational campaign,” he maintained.

Mr. Buosaiba added that Dubai Customs is concerned throughout the year with the environment issue. A number of the relevant community initiatives have been launched aiming at creating an electronic environment for employees, clients and the strategic stakeholders through developing and using paperless business programmes and systems. Dubai Customs has launched earlier a number of campaigns that included cleaning of Dubai beaches, combating trading in endangered animals and awareness campaigns about the dangers of the climate change and carbon emissions and their effects on food and air sources.

Among the environment initiatives, which has been launched by Dubai Customs is Fishing Harbors project, a tourist, economic and environment friendly project. It includes the development of 4 harbors at the Arab Gulf coast off shore Jumeirah District providing a healthy climate for tourists, visitors and the fishing community mainly.  The implementation of the project depends on green building and applying advanced practices for preserving the environment. The project earned Dubai Environment and Health Award for 2008 (silver category). All such efforts are of an economic return contributing to realizing the sustainable development in addition to the social and humanitarian dimensions.

“This occasion constitutes a unique opportunity for consolidating environmental awareness among all levels. It is a joint responsibility between the public and government organizations since benefiting all. From our part in Dubai Customs, we are committed to meet a number of obligations towards the community being an integral part of it. We cannot make any success without interacting with the community and delivering higher quality services to its members,” he said.

Mr. Buosaiba pointed out that Dubai Customs has launched over the past two months an internal campaign among the employees under the theme of “We Say We save Our Environment” with the objective of increasing customs employees, clients and stakeholders awareness about the environment issues and the importance of preserve and protect it. The awareness included power saving and reliance on e-solutions in business processes.
