The International Red Cross Union (IRCU) and the Red Crescent Society (RCS) has honoured Dubai Customs, in appreciation of its effective role in facilitating smooth passage of relief aid to Tsunami victims, consigned by IRCU through Dubai Airport and Jebel Ali Customs centers.

“Dubai Customs, besides its economic role, gives great attention to humanitarian aspects and is committed to ensure easy movement of all kinds of relief aid material, meant for areas that have been affected by war or natural calamities. Dubai Customs spares no effort to provide the required assistance in this regard and is concerned about the well being of people who are in need of emergency relief material,” said Ahmed Buti Ahmed, Director General of Dubai Customs.

“As part of its strategic plan, Dubai Customs seeks to enhance its social role, both regionally and internationally, through consistent contribution to various humanitarian activities,” he added.

Praising the commendable efforts of Dubai Customs, Veil Jones, Director General of IRCU Transport Fleet said, “the rapid and immediate response by the staff at both Customs locations assisted in the timely arrival of the foodstuff and other relief aid.”

Jones gave out the certificates of appreciation and the memorial shields to Obaid Bakhit Al Suwaidi, Head of Jebel Ali Customs Center and Abu Talib Mohammed Abdul Rahman and Awad Faraj Abdul Karim, who represented the Head of Airport Customs Center.
