Ahmed Butti Ahmed: the Tournament aims to reinforce social ties among employees at the Department

In the presence of Sheikh Mohammed Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, President of UAE Billiards & Snooker Association and H.E. Yousef Yaqoob Al Serkal, Vice President of the Olympic Committee and Vice President of the Asian Football Association, H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Dubai Customs inaugurated Dubai Customs Ramadan Football Six-a-side Tournament last night. The Tournament takes place at Salah Al Dein Court and will last until September 7th, 2009.

The opening ceremony began with the national anthem of the UAE and was followed by a recitation of some Quran verses. H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed greeted the audience and the participants on the occasion of the Holy month of Ramadan and wished that the Tournament scores a huge success in such a manner that meets Dubai Customs' presence and reputation.

Dubai Customs is holding the Tournament for the second time this year after the success of the first Tournament in previous years. He also said that the Tournament is well-received by the employees and deserves much credit because it aims to reinforce social and humanitarian ties among employees of different grades especially during this holy time.

The opening ceremony was attended by H.E. Abdul Rahman Al Saleh, the Director General of the Department of Finance in Dubai, Mr. Yousef Al Sahlawi, Executive Director of Legislations and Policies Division, Mr. Ahmed Mahboob Mussabih, Executive Director of Client Management Division, Mr. Sultan Al Jokar, Advisor to DC Director General, Mr. Ahmed Abdul Salam Kazim, Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence Department and a number of senior managers and department's managers at Dubai Customs besides a large number of employees who attended the ceremony as well.

In his speech, Mr. Al Sahlawi welcomed the audience and extended his wishes of success in the Tournament. He also expressed his appreciation to H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed for sponsoring the Tournament and the great support, guidance and facilitations he offered to help turn it into success as well as his keenness to cultivate a friendly atmosphere during the holy month. Al Sahlawi also called for more public attendance.

The first day of the Tournament witnessed four matches. A strong game kicked off between Port Rashid Customer Service team and Customs Tariff team that ended with the victory of the Customer Service team who beat Customs Tariff team 4-1. As for the second match, the Human Resources team beat Cargo Village team 2-0. Moreover, Customs Intelligence team played against the Investigation team and won 4-2. Yesterday's matches ended up with Passengers Operations team (Terminal 3) - A beating Al Hemariyah Customs Center with a 2-0 victory.

The Tournament will continue until next September 7th at Salah Al Dein Court as it will be regularly held. The monitoring committee for the Tournament will asses and choose the best teams and employees who will be awarded at the end of the Tournament. Moreover, daily draws for the public on some gift items will be taken.
