Dubai Customs sponsors Al Wasl Volley Ball team at 28th GCC Championships
Dubai Customs would sponsor Al Wasl volley ball first team while taking part in the 28th GCC championship scheduled to take place in Jeddah from 27 March to 2 April 2009 where Al Wasl Club would be representing the UAE for the ninth running time in the history of the championships.
This was announced by Mr. Ahmed Mahboob, Executive Director of Clients Management Division at Dubai Customs during a press conference held Tuesday 24th March 2009 at Al Wasl Sports Club in the attendance of Mr. Khalid Mourad, head of Al Wasl delegation to the championships and a number of local media correspondents.
“One of Dubai Customs strategic objective is to support social development by delivering services to local community and sharing its different events and activities including sports. Dubai Customs is delighted to be a key sponsor of Al Wasl volley ball first team while taking part in the 28th GCC Championships. We value the outstanding ranking, which Al Wasl Club stands at local and external levels and confident that it would best represent the UAE. It is hoped that the team would achieve good results to be added to its numerous former local and external achievements and constitute a source of pride for the UAE sports”, said Mr. Mahboob.
“Such sports sponsorship is not the first of its kind. Dubai Customs has previously sponsored a number of sports events including horse race, camel race and some group sports. Although Customs mainly controls and regulates goods and passengers movement, it plays a social role by serving the society and supporting social events including sports activities. It takes the pride in such role being a social obligation that to be fulfilled,” he added.
The shirts to be worn by team members at the championship bearing Dubai Customs emblem as a key sponsor were unveiled by two players before media correspondents.
From his part, Mr. Khalid Mourad expressed his gratitude for Dubai Customs initiative to sponsor Al Wasl volley ball first team at the GCC championship saying that the sponsorship would extend to cover the current UAE league and Zayed Cup tournament.
“We are proud at Al Wasl Club of Dubai Customs role in serving the national economy and local community as well as its worldwide position and reputation. Dubai Customs` sponsorship is greatly valued hoping that the team will be at their favorable judgment by achieving good results. We look forward to earning the title of this championship in which we participated for 8 times achieving the second place 3 times,” he added.
Mr. Mourad pointed out that 6 GCC teams namely Al Wasl from UAE, Al Ahli from Jeddah, Al Arabi from Qatar, Al Naser from Bahrain, Al Seeb from Oman and Al Qadisiya from Kuwait would be participating in this championship.
