As the world’s third largest airport retailer, Dubai Duty Free (DDF) needs to ensure that right goods are on the shelves and information is on the tills, as they have a short window of time to sell to their traveling customers. Today, the company announced that it has selected Oracle Retail Warehouse Management System to streamline the movement of merchandise and data, giving them the back office information technology infrastructure to support their 2006 target of $670 million in retail sales, 13.5 per cent higher than last year's figures. The ORWMS will be deployed in the new 27,000 sq. mt. semi-automated Distribution Center that is being built by Dubai Duty Free to support its growing retail business at Dubai International Aiport.
For the first quarter of 2006, DDF set a record of US$159m in sales. Ensuring that the right resources are in place to keep these sales flowing is an art long perfected by DDF’s management team, led by Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director, Dubai Duty Free. “Delivering uninterrupted growth has been an important part of our success so far, and using the power of technology has been a key element of this success” he commented. “The benefits we have enjoyed from using the Oracle E-Business Suite over the past five years meant that when we were looking to enhance our warehouse management efficiency we turned to our Oracle first to discuss suitable solutions.”
The Oracle Retail Warehouse Management System offers sophisticated yet flexible configuration and built-in best practices, to coordinate the movement of goods through the warehouse and ensure supply issues are dealt with before they result in gaps on the shelves. Real-time inventory management results in improved forecasting, planning and allocation, and the extended capabilities mean that benefits are also appreciated by partners and suppliers of the retail leader.
“With over 20,000 unique items of merchandise, the new Oracle Retail warehousing management system will be critical in accelerating and optimizing the flow of goods from store to shelf, reducing lead times, freeing up people to focus on other areas, and ultimately eliminating lost sales due to out of stock situations” commented George Horan, Deputy Managing Director, Dubai Duty Free.
Delivering return on investment is easier with proven with implementations such as the Oracle Retail Warehouse Management System, added Ramesh Cidambi, Director, IT and Logistics Dubai Duty Free. “Adopting Oracle’s integrated approach means that this implementation will deliver great results without much integration work” commented Cidambi. “We feel that using the Retail Integration Bus architecture makes it easy to integrate the system to the Oracle e-business suite, and also with other Oracle Retail applications that DDF may implement in the future. And a successful implementation of ORWMS will reduce the risks in relation to the opening of the new Distribution Center.”
“Dubai Duty Free has always demonstrated a visionary approach to taking advantage of next generation technology to support their record levels of growth” concluded Ayman Abouseif, Managing Director of Oracle in the Gulf States. “DDF’s clear e-business strategy has delivered a robust platform for automating processes and providing executives and decision makers with up to the minute information, this new project should give them the tools to achieve even more spectacular growth in the near future.”
