Summer Wellness 2010, a community initiative that is taking seasonal health advice to shoppers during Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), has received a boost for its campaign from Dubai Health Care City (DHCC). The world's first health care free zone, which is home to over 80 high quality medical institutions, has announced that it will be supporting the program of activities currently taking place at malls and shopping centres across the UAE.
Dr Ayesha Abdullah, Executive Director of Dubai Healthcare City said: "We are delighted to partner with the Summer Wellness campaign to assist in bringing free, leading health advice to residents and visitors in the UAE. Proactive community initiatives are a fundamental way to raise public awareness on managing health and wellbeing. We are committed to social activities which encourage preventative care through professional information, advice and support.
"Throughout the year we will be working with like-minded partners to talk about common health concerns such as diet, fitness, women's health, eye and dental care and general wellbeing. During Ramadan we will be on hand with ExHealth to provide guidance on how to manage your physical and mental state while fasting and there will be a range of activities and information to support the community during the Holy Month."
Summer Wellness 2010 was inaugurated last year with the specific intention of providing health advice relevant for the summer months; a time of year that can prove to be challenging for personal fitness. The high temperatures and humidity levels at this point on the calendar put paid to most outdoor pursuits, with malls and air conditioned entertainment being preferred venues that at least offer relief from uncomfortable climatic conditions. Last year's Summer Wellness proved to be extremely successful, with thousands of DSS shoppers participating in the activities on offer at the stands in the malls. Interactive activities that have been repeated for this year's schedule include free health check-ups, practical cookery demonstrations, counselling and edutainment activities. Fitness features highly on the program and yoga company LivinHarmony has also announced its participation this year.
"Yoga is the perfect exercise for all year round, as it can be undertaken easily at home in limited space," said George Stanboulieh, Hatha Yoga Instructor and director of LivinHarmony. "We have a yoga program that we take to offices and corporate institutions across the UAE with the idea of promoting stress relief in the workplace as well as physical fitness and suppleness. We will be showing people at Summer Wellness how they can use can use these techniques at home to maintain their wellbeing during the hot summer months," he added.
Summer Wellness is currently dispensing health-related advice and information at Festival City and will move to Mercato Mall on July 20. Its program of activities lasts for the entire 52 day DSS period, with each individual mall's activities having its own unique theme. The event has been organised by ExHealth, which runs a number of community health initiatives throughout the year.
