The corridors and classrooms were filled with smiles, laughter and pride as 600 grandparents attended Dubai Modern High School’s annual Grandparents’ Day. The special day was held for the first time in the UAE five years ago by Dubai Modern High School. It gives grandchildren an opportunity to show off their talent, work, classrooms, and school to their grandparents.

Grandparents’ Day is a highlight on many family calendars as some grandparents plan trips to Dubai especially to attend this day. Grandparents flew in from India, and many parents ensured they stopped in Dubai for this day before flying to other parts of the world.

The morning began with performances by the senior students of Dubai Modern High School, followed by the primary students. The Principal then took the stage and spoke to the emotional crowd, who had been touched to hear the lovely voices of their grandchildren sing Hallelujah. Grandparents were then asked to join the school staff, students and parents, who were not allowed to attend the concert only meant for grandparents, for tea, coffee and snacks. The grandparents then attended classes with their grandchildren and shared stories of their life, especially their school days.

Darryl Bloud, Principal, Dubai Modern High School said: “In today’s fast-paced life, get-togethers that celebrate family ties are important to further hone the social skills of students. The Grandparents Day organised by the school for the past five years is a colourful event that provides grandparents with a glimpse into the school activities of their grandchildren.”

He added: “Dubai Modern High School is focused on the all-rounded development of our students, and we give emphasis not only on academics but also on personality development to mould them as responsible individuals caring for their families and the society.”

Dubai Modern High School is part of the GEMS network of schools that offers the curriculum of CISCE Board to children from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 12.
