Under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Department of Dubai Civil Aviation, Chairman of Emirates Airways Group and the honorary patron of the Dubai Quality Group (DQG), the 7th session of the "Emirates Business Women award" was launched today during a press conference was held at the Raffles Hotel in Dubai. DQG officially announced the launch of the award under its new name; "Emirates Women Award".
The award, first launched in 2003, aims to recognize and appreciate the outstanding contributions of business and professional women in the UAE, in addition to activate the contribution of women in the mission of promoting business' excellence in the country.
Mr. Osama Al Rahma, Vice Chairman of Dubai Quality Group said: "The great achievements that have been accomplished in the country are all due to the visionary and wise leadership which invested in human as the most important factor for achieving development and progress. Dubai Quality Group has succeeded in adopting this vision through building a coherent and strong businesswomen community based on organizational excellence and the dissemination of quality's practices at all functional levels, in addition to over generalizing knowledge and expertise that turned businesswomen and professionals in the country to the ranks of the most sophisticated and influential women in the process of international sustainable development".
"We truly believe that the level of development and great achievements made by women in the UAE in various fields over the past years which actively participated in advancing the development of the country, must be praised and appreciated. Moreover, we will work to expand our events and activities which would encourage women to contribute in the building of our community". Added Al Rahma.
In turn, Mrs. Raja Al Gurg, President of Dubai Business Women Council, commended the effective-leading role of the Arabian women in the process of development. In addition, she valued their contributions in the development of the business community and their dissemination of feminine work's culture among the members of the community."
Al Gurg urged women to adopt effective initiatives to take control on their own businesses. She said: "We do believe that women are just as capable of succeeding in the business world as men, and that Arab women are equally competent as their Western counterparts in the standards of efficiency and effectiveness in the field of business".
"I never thought I would go into business, but being in this field for the last 20 years, as an Emirati woman, proved that Emirati women can be successful regardless of the fact that they are women. So, I think it is crucial that all women should personally and directly push their own boundaries and should have the will and determination to achieve success". Added Al Gurg.
Dubai Quality Group will hold a series of workshops and lectures starting from January until next March, in order to explain award's participation mechanisms. DQG will also receive participation's applications until next mid-April.
It is noteworthy that the participation of the Emirates Women Award is open to nationals and expatriates women alike in the two main categories; Business owners and Professionals. Conditions required for the Business Owners; the applicant should own her private business in the UAE and have run her business for a minimum of 3 years. As for the Business Professionals; the applicant must be employed in any professional sector in UAE and have worked in UAE for a minimum of 3 years. All candidates of the Emirates Women Award will get guidance from last year's winners.
Its worthy to mention that Emirates Women Award for this year is supported by "Emirates Businesswomen Council" and "Dubai Business Women Council", and mainly sponsored by "Ajman Businesswomen Council ", "DAMAC Holding", "Geo-Science Testing Laboratory" and "Philips".
