The stage is set for the biggest Dubai Shopping Festival yet, as the region’s premiere retail, leisure and entertainment extravaganza celebrates its 15th edition this year with 32 days of exciting promotions, offers and events unfolding from January 28, 2010.
“Celebrating the 15th edition of DSF is a landmark achievement for the festival, so we are leaving no stone unturned to ensure its success. In the tradition of this highly anticipated event, we are offering an experience that will celebrate the best and brightest of what Dubai has to offer in terms of shopping, leisure and entertainment; and we are ready to amaze and delight our residents and guests with an experience they will long remember,” said Laila Suhail, Chief Executive, Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (formerly DSF Office), organisers of the annual festival.
The festival kicks off with an innovative opening ceremony to spread the festive feel of DSF across Dubai. Shoppers from all over the world will be treated to an amazing promotion – a special one-day shopping bonanza with discounts of up to 75 percent across 40 participating malls throughout Dubai and a dazzling fireworks display at the Seef Area of Dubai Creek that heralds the celebration of the festival. The huge discount offers continue throughout the 32-day festival in all participating outlets, covering a wide range of consumer goods and turning Dubai into a lively and vibrant shopping paradise.
A staple attraction of every DSF edition, raffle enthusiasts stand the chance to win brand new Lexus LS 460 luxury sedans and AED100,000 in cash in the Lexus Mega Raffle, as well as Nissan SUVs and sedans in various daily and weekend draws. A special custom edition of the Lexus LX 570 encrusted with 5 carat diamonds will also be given away in a special raffle. Prizes worth in excess of AED 16 million will be up for grabs, with raffle tickets available at more than 100 locations across Dubai.
Adding colour and zest to the festive atmosphere are the Dubai Carnivals, featuring jugglers, stilt walkers, unicyclists, and musicians performing on the streets and in malls all through the festival; as well as world-class concerts, including performances from Sean Kingston, Tamer Hosny, popular Indian singer Sunidhi Chauhan, and famed bands Nickelback and Status Quo.
Jazz-lovers can look forward to the landmark and highly anticipated Skywards Dubai International Jazz Festival, which brings together local, regional, and international jazz artists in several performances in Dubai Media City. A special prelude titled World of Jazz is being organised at The Walk in JBR, featuring renowned artists performing traditional and contemporary jazz hits and classic favourites.
Highlighting the heritage and history of Dubai is an important aspect of DSF celebrations, and this year residents and guests will have a true taste and feel of Dubai culture at the Khor Dubai area, covering Shindagah, the Heritage and Diving Village, Bastakiya, Souk Al Kabeer, the Gold Souk, and the Spice Market.
Global Village is also back for the 2010 season with the participation of 31 pavilions, 45 cultures, and around 6,000 cultural shows and performances. The venue will provide a unique experience for shoppers and families alike with attractions including the Chinese Flying Poles Show, a stunt performance called Bounce!, and cultural shows from Africa, Bulgaria, Brazil, France, US, Philippines, and Palestine.
“The 15th edition of DSF is set to be truly spectacular, and we are ready to welcome visitors from across the globe to share in the festival that showcases Dubai as a truly world-class shopping and tourism destination,” ended Suhail.
More than 150 international and regional events are expected to be showcased during the 15th edition including concerts, shows, and musicals.
