Jotun Paints, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of paint, has been invited to become a founding member of the Emirates Green Building Council (GBC) when established later this year. The move recognizes Jotun Paints’ commitment to providing innovative solutions to some of the most challenging environmental issues facing the UAE today.
As the only paint manufacturing company asked to be a part of the UAE environmental building council, Jotun’s collaboration with the Emirates GBC represents a breakthrough in creating and maintaining sustainable built-environments and protecting the ecosystem of the UAE. Emirates GBC aims to advance work that supports the development and implementation of high performance Green Building principles, through partnerships with industries such as Jotun, the UAE will become a model for sustainable environment throughout the Middle East.
Erik Aaberg, Regional Managing Director, Jotun, said: “As the UAE’s most environment friendly paint manufacturing company, we are honoured to be asked to be a founding member of the groundbreaking Emirates GBC. This recognizes the longstanding commitment of Jotun to improving the environment through eco friendly production methods and products.”
Only companies which have incorporated excellent practices resulting in environmental protection, energy efficiency, water conservation, usage of renewable energy and recycled products are invited to be a part of the Emirates GBC, which in turn is expected to form part of the World Green Building Council.
Jotun has been at the forefront in terms of developing products specifically suited to local conditions. Three decades of experience in the Middle East region, has helped the company produce a variety of conventional and specialized coatings - each incorporating the latest technological developments. Jotun’s innovative approach to both the needs of customers and the environment has made it an obvious choice to help establish the Emirates GBC.
Already the multinational company has implemented various recycling programs including the recycling of general waste such as pallets, plastic and metal drums, waste water, waste solvent and powder collected from the dust extractor at the WB plant. Such has been Jotun’s success in terms of recycling, that the eco friendly company generates more through recycling than it spends in total on disposal.
Committed to offering customers the best possible products while taking into account environmental needs, Jotun produces high solids, water based products which are environmentally friendly with chemicals such as methylene chloride and TBTO phased out of all Jotun’s products.
Yet it is not only customers that benefit from Jotun’s eco-friendly commitment, employees at Jotun also gain from a number of steps taken to ensure that the work environment is just as well protected. Where possible, Jotun has introduced closed system process, whereby exposure levels are reduced. In addition to this local exhaust ventilation systems have been installed to reduce the exposure level of voc/dust to employees.
“Jotun has raised the benchmark of environment friendly production techniques and products within the paint manufacturing industry. With a corporate commitment to improving the environment, we hope to inspire others to adopt a more eco friendly approach to business,” added Erik Aaberg.
