EEG’s Million Tree Campaign pledges get a boost from Johnson Controls.

The One Million Tree Campaign pledge of EEG has increased by 20 more indigenous palm trees through the effort of Johnson Controls.

As a part of their commitment to give back to the community they operate in, Johnson controls came aboard the Million Tree Campaign bandwagon and donated 20 trees to Khansa School, Dubai.

The donation was also accompanied by hard work by the company officials, with the senior management from Johnson Controls planting the trees alongside the students and teachers. The students from the environmental club of Khansa School enthusiastically joined in the ‘green effort’ and planted the trees with gusto in their campus.

The tree planting was carried for Khansa School as a part of EEG’s initiative to target Special schools, charity schools and government schools that would benefit from its campaign.

EEG Chairperson, Mrs. Habiba Al Marashi, said “EEG is proud to be the initiator of the campaign as planting indigenous trees in our urban environment will not only help with offsetting the carbon count of our daily lives, but also help in maintaining sustainable green spaces in our rapidly growing urban environment. EEG is thankful to organizations such as Johnson Controls for lending a helping hand to EEG’s Campaigns and Programmes.”

Mr. Magdy A. Mekky, Vice President & Managing Director, Johnson Controls said, "Our commitment to sustainability closely identifies with the initiatives of EEG. Johnson Controls contributes millions of dollars and our employees volunteer thousands of man hours for the improvement of communities and the environment around the world, under our Blue Sky program. We are pleased to be associated with the EEG and their efforts at sustaining the environment.

EEG is accredited to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) governing Council. Tree planting is a part of EEG’s commitment to the UNEP’s Billion Tree programme, wherein EEG had pledged one million indigenous trees to be planted in UAE in the year 2007.

The One Million Tree Campaign has been an ongoing activity in the year 2008 and 2009, as an ongoing commitment to UNEP. 2009 has already witnessed a number of organizations coming forward to plant indigenous trees as part of their commitment to the cause of environmental protection and preservation. EEG surpassed its target and succeeded in planting more than 1,614,221 million indigenous trees.
