ALBAWABA - Following an exchange of fire near the borders with Israel, Egyptian authorities announced foiling a drug smuggling attempt, where aid deliveries for Gaza are being inspected, an Egyptian Army spokesperson said on Tuesday.

The spokesperson added that one of the smugglers was killed in the incident in the Sinai peninsula and six others were arrested south of the Al-Awja border crossing, known in Israel as the Nitzana crossing.

The head of the Arab media division of the Israeli Army Spokesperson's Units Avichay Adraee said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that 20 suspects, including gunmen, approached the border near Nitzana before being fired at by soldiers there. Injuries were reported.
