The director general for the International Alexandria Film Festival, Mustafa Muharam, said that the Egyptian Board of Censorship has opposed the film Tea With Mussolini by director Franco Zifferelli, because the movie portrays “Jewish support.”

In a statement to the AFP, Muharam said that “the censorship board has suggested that the Turkish film Dia’ya Siyasia (Propaganda), take the place of ’Mussolini’.”

“The movie, directed by Snan Jiten talks about uniting the Turkish-Syrian borders in 1948 from a Turkish point of view,” he added.

Meanwhile, Muharam also said that the “festival’s administration has decided to form a special committee, whose job will be to watch the Italian movie and make a final decision by Tuesday.”

Furthermore, the decision will rest entirely in the hands of the festival’s administration since “the censorship board has decided to place the issue in the hands of the festival,” added Muharam.

The 16th Annual International Alexandria Film Festival commences on Wednesday, 13th of September-Albawaba.com.
