Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa has stressed that Iran's relations with Egypt and the Arab world have improved greatly, reported Iran News Agency, quoting the minister as telling Al-Ahram newspaper Sunday.
"Egypt's ties with Iran have improved a lot. The issue of restoration of ties will come in its own time," Moussa said.
He explained that "this does not mean that there is no coordination or absence of understanding, or meetings are nonexistent."
The truth is that there is much understanding related with foreign and regional elements and even on international views over topics like conflict of civilizations between us and Iran," said Moussa.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in June made the first direct contact between the two countries' leaders since the revolution, telephoning his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Khatami on the occasion of Iran's admission to the G-15 group of countries at a meeting in Cairo, said Reuters.
Ties have improved over the past few years, and each country has charges d'affaires stationed in interest sections in the other country.
Cairo has said it is ready to re-establish diplomatic relations as soon as Tehran changes the name of Khaled al-Islambuli street -- named after the man who assassinated Mubarak's predecessor Anwar al-Sadat in 1981.
Despite the rupture, economic relations have also improved in recent years, said Reuters - (Several Sources)
