For a few minutes today, Thursday, hackers succeeded in bringing down the official websites of the Egyptian Cabinet and its affiliate the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC), said a statement by the IDSC.

The center confirmed that the hackers failed to penetrate the main system or access confidential information, but only managed to attack the front end of the websites, assuring that the technical team contained the breach with the aid of security firewalls.

Both websites will temporarily remain offline until the tech team ensures that their security is not compromised, the center said.

In August, Cairo Airport’s website was hacked, reportedly to mark the second anniversary of the violent dispersal of the Rabaa Al-Adaweya and Nahda sit-ins supporting President Mohamed Morsi, who was ousted by the military in July 2013.
