Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday invited Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to a summit in Egypt aimed at resolving their difficulties, the MENA news agency reported.

Mubarak invited the two leaders to the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where the three met in September last year to advance the peace process, the state-run Middle East News Agency said.

But he did not give a date.

Barak and Arafat are due to meet Wednesday in Paris following an accord to end five days of violence pitting Israeli forces against Palestinians and Israeli Arabs that claimed more than 40 lives.

US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright will also be on hand - CAIRO (AFP)
