Elite Program commences five-day study tour in Singapore

Dubai Opening Study Visit Program highlights the challenges and opportunities while managing global cities

The Elite Program, a specialised program initiated by the Executive Office of Dubai and managed by Mohammed Bin Rashid Programme for Leadership Development (MBRPLD), has announced that it has commenced today (February 2, 2009) the Dubai Opening Study Visit Program (DO) in Singapore, an overseas study tour from February 2 to 6 that will focus on the topical theme of "Managing Global Cities." The Singapore visit will involve a series of lectures featuring senior government and business leaders of Singapore and site tours that will enable Elite Program participants to grasp some of the critical elements that have contributed to Singapore's success.

The DO program revolves around three key themes that have been deemed critical for public sector leaders to succeed in managing global cities such as Dubai: governance and national competitiveness; sustainable urban development; and strategic and economical outlook. The experience and knowledge acquired from the study tour will be used by the program participants to develop customised strategies that are beneficial to Dubai and complementary to the Dubai Strategic Plan.

Adel Al Shared, CEO, Elite Program said: “Dubai Opening provides an opportunity for Elite Program participants to learn more about how other global cities approach various issues that affect their economy and ensure the development of a progressive society. Singapore represents a city which is renowned not only for its strong economy, but also for having a highly disciplined society. Surely, Elite Program participants will benefit a lot in terms of experience and knowledge from the Singapore study tour."

Shamma Al Amery, participant of Elite Program said: "Managing a global city is not just about facing challenges but also about taking advantage of opportunities; in this regard I believe Singapore has been a model society that has effectively addressed various challenges and seized gainful opportunities. This rare opportunity to learn more about the strategies and best practices that have contributed to Singapore's success will definitely boost our own pursuit to become effective leaders in future."

The inaugural day of the Singapore study tour provides participants an overview of Singapore's success story followed by an in-depth analysis of the Asian financial outlook. Panel discussions will conclude the opening day of the study visit wherein high-profile speakers will engage participants in an exclusive dialogue with the topic "China & India, Economics and Geopolitics."

The Elite Program has been established to identify and prepare promising young UAE nationals to be future leaders capable of managing the strategic initiatives of the local and federal governments. The DO program is part of several modules specially developed for the Elite Program participants.

The Elite Program targets talented young professionals in the 21-25 age bracket who have a bachelor's degree from a recognised university, proven academic excellence, strong leadership potential, working knowledge in both Arabic and English, basic computer skills, and a genuine dedication and commitment to the region's human and socioeconomic progress.

Further details of the activities of the program are available on the Elite Program's website (www.tep.ae).
