His Highness Sheikh Majed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Arts and Culture Authority, attended the closing ceremony events of Emirates Energy Award (EEA)- third session which was organized by Dubai Quality Group (DQG). The closing ceremony, which was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, took place yesterday at the Raffles Hotel in Dubai.
In the presence of a distinguished audience of businessmen, academics and energy-concerned from within and outside the country, the closing ceremony included several events which spot light on the great achievements of the award during the past year.
EEA is one of the initiatives pursued by DQG to promote regional awareness of the importance of optimal use of energy, urged individuals and companies to switch for renewable and clean energy sources and at the same time support the local business community to establish innovative enterprises that contribute to energy and environment conservation.
At the outset of his speech in the closing ceremony, H.E. Eng. Saeed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Emirates Energy Award, a member of the directors board and chief executive director of Electricity and Water Authority of Dubai, said: “Emirates Energy Award comes in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which made clean energy and the environment a major focus of his Highness”.
Al Tayer emphasized on the importance of collective efforts from both government organizations and the private sector in order to raise the awareness of rationalization among consumers. "EEA is part of our ongoing efforts to promote a culture of energy conservation and awareness in the region, as well as contributing to greater achievements in the development and conservation of resources. Besides, preserving the environment and supporting sustainable development." added Al Tayer.
He also appealed to all energy users to change patterns of their use of energy with a more efficient and make conservation a way for a better life through the implementation of best practices in this field.
Moreover, he appreciated the great success achieved by the award during its third year, and its contribution to encourage individuals and organizations from the public and private sectors to enhance their ability to participate in national efforts to conserve energy not only in the UAE but in all the GCC countries.
For his part, Dr. Abdullah Al Amiri, Secretary General of the Emirates Energy Award, said: “Considered as one of the major initiatives of DQG, EEA aims to spread awareness of the importance of energy conservation as well as appreciate best practices and initiatives in the field of energy conservation and management to ensure sustainability for future generations. Hence, the members of the award executive committee undertook the responsibility of energy-conservation awareness among the community”.
“A number of initiatives and projects were accomplished since the launch of the award, which undoubtedly support our efforts in this regard. For example, the implementation of the standards of "Green Buildings" in all facilities of Dubai was decreed. In addition, the request of the country to host the International Agency for Renewable Energies (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi, was accepted”. Added Al Amiri.
In turn, Dr. Wafi Dawood, Chairman of DQG, affirmed that the Group took the lead and was more confident and quick towards shifting for the best, in line with its belief in the importance of strengthening the mechanisms of action in light of clean energy climate changes taking place in the world. Moreover, he emphasized on the need to implement all initiatives that would preserve the environment. Consequently, he appreciated the award’s developmental and awareness role since it achieved notable successes in a short period.
He also commended the efforts of its staff especially as they succeeded in expanding the geographical spot of the award to include the GCC countries.
At the end of the event, awards were presented to the winners, sponsors and people who contributed to the success of the Award. His Highness Sheikh Majed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum awarded the winners of the six categories as follows; Energy award for public corporation which was won by Bahrain Petroleum Compan (BAPCO) from Kingdom of Bahrain for “Bapco’s Mass Loss Reduction Program”, the award was granted to Eng. Ibrahim Abdullah Taleb, director general of the refinery. Energy award for private corporation, the second place was won by Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company "ADMA OPCO" from UAE for “Reducing energy consumption in the ADMA-OPCO Headquarters”, the award was granted to H.E. Ali Al Jarwan, general manager of ADMA. While the first place was won by the Saudi Oil Company “Aramco” from Saudi Arabia for “Saudi Aramco Energy Management Program”, the award was granted to H.E. Saleh Abdul Aziz Al-Zaid, director of the proceedings and control systems. Major project award was won by Al Khaleej Sugar from UAE for “UTILISATION OF LOW PRESSURE (WASTE VAPOUR) VAPOUR USING MECHANICAL VAPOUR PRECOMPRESSOR”, the award was granted to H.E. Jamal Al Ghurair, executive director. Minor project award, the second place was won by the Saudi Oil Company “Aramco” from Saudi ArabiaSustainable Energy & Environment Division (SEED), TECOM Investments from UAE for “Water Conservation Project at TECOM SIte A”, the award was granted to Mr. Abdul Latif Al Mulla, CEO of the group. Education & Research award was won by the Saudi Oil Company “Aramco” from Saudi Arabia for “Combined Heat and Power Model Development”, the award was granted to H.E. Saleh Abdul Aziz Al-Zaid. Finally, Energy Engineer Award which was won by Eng. D.S. Narayana.
Worth mentioning that this year’s Award was co-sponsored by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) as the main sponsor, Dubai Aluminum Company (DUBAL) as the gold sponsor, and Dubai Media Incorporated as the media sponsor. It is also worthy to mention that the award was supported by the Ministry of Environment and Water, Ministry of Energy, and the Energy and Environment Park (ENPARK) as a supportive partner.
