Programme trained and recruited 1332 Nationals since beginning of year

The 17th meeting of the trustees of the Emirates National Development Programme (ENDP) has met to discuss progress so far in 2009. The meeting was attended by: H.E Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman, HE Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, Mr. Khalid Juma Al Majid, Mr. Abdul Aziz Al-Ali, Mr. Mohammed Malik and Mr Gerald Lawless.

Essa Al Mulla, ENDP’s Executive Director, presented the Business Development Programme for the year, reporting that ENDP has trained and recruited 1332 Nationals in a variety of employment sectors, which is 67% of the target set for 2009.

The total number of Nationals trained and recruited in the Government and private sectors totalled 6442, males and females.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees H.E. Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer and members praised ENDP’s work in supporting the Emiratization project, and he encouraged ENDP (which operates under the umbrella of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai) to continue their hard work.
The report highlighted which sectors Nationals have been recruited into, and showed that the highest ratio was the banking sector with 717 employees out of 1332 (more than 50%); a further  227 trainees were placed in the semi-Government sector, and the rest went into sectors including Government and tourism.

The meeting also reviewed the training courses and job fairs which ENDP has organized so far this year. The job fairs allow job seekers to be interviewed and recruited in different parts of the Emirates, while the training courses act as incentives for career seekers.

ENDP’s initiatives have been publicised across the Emirates through news releases and in cooperation with various local and federal authorities.

Board members also heard a follow-up report on Nationals placed in jobs, which helped to analyse the reasons why employers stayed in a job, or why they moved around the jobs market. ENDP is working towards making sure that the best local practices are implemented to help Nationals stay in their jobs and improve their relations with their employers.

The meeting was also attended by: His Excellency Dr. Anwar Gargash, HE Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, HE Abdulrahman Al Ghurair, Mr. Khalid Juma Al Majid, Mr. Abdul Aziz Al-Ali, Mr. Mohammed Malik and Mr Gerald Lawless.
