Confidence, femininity, quiet strength and timeless grace.  Every woman defines “sensuous” in a different way. In November 2008, Estée Lauder will unveil Sensuous, a warm, inviting, woody amber fragrance that captures the many facets that make today’s woman so complex and fascinating.

“When creating Sensuous, we wanted to re-invent the idea of feminine woods and change the texture and sensation of woods for women,” says Karyn Khoury, Senior Vice President of Corporate Fragrance Development Worldwide, Estée Lauder Companies.  “I had long been inspired by the Maya Angelou poem, ‘Phenomenal Woman,’ which speaks to the inherent power of women.  This inspiration and the vision of confident, modern yet timeless femininity which it brought to mind helped me work with the perfumers to fuse the science and the magic of perfumery.”

New Fragrance Category
To capture the essence of sensuality, Estée Lauder created a new fragrance category called Woody Amber. “I felt that woods could smell sleek, modern, and sophisticated,” Khoury continues. “But in the past they have come across as too harsh and masculine for a truly feminine fragrance. In Sensuous, we created a woody accord that is fluid, warm, inviting and distinctly feminine.”

The Warm Accord is a rich, mysterious core of Molten Woods and glowing Amber that pulses with warmth, luminosity and feminine passion.  Woods have been used since the early times of perfumery but most often in a background role. In Sensuous, these notes were chosen to create a modern, new sensation of feminine woods. To achieve this signature element of the fragrance, Estée Lauder used for the first time in perfumery, a Melted Woods NaturePrint to capture the experience of textured, melting woods.

Enveloping the Molton core is a floral introduction that does not take away from Sensuous’ woody signature. The Feminine Accord is composed around a completely new exclusive Estée Lauder fragrance concept called Atmospheric Florals.  Inspired by the sensation of walking into a warm, orchid-filled greenhouse and being surrounded with an atmosphere of floralcy where no one flower dominates or is identifiable but instead an almost subliminal floral impression occurs.  The feminine and airy blend of a specially created Ghost Lily Accord, Magnolia and Jasmine Petals is complimented by the Ylang Nature Intact, a very pure, highly refined natural Ylang extraction.

The Luminous Accord melds creamy Sandalwood, Black Pepper, Juicy Mandarin Pulp and an opulently addictive, nectar-like Honey NaturePrint to create a captivating, lingering sensuality that reinforces the modern radiance of the core woods.

The Breakthrough Advertising Campaign
Shot by world-renowned photographer Craig McDean, the contemporary advertising campaign features all four Estée Lauder spokesmodels, Gwyneth Paltrow, Elizabeth Hurley, Hilary Rhoda

 

and Carolyn Murphy.  The breakthrough advertising marks the first time all four models have been photographed together for an Estée Lauder fragrance.  The campaign was created by Doug Lloyd of Lloyd and Co. in collaboration with Aerin Lauder, Senior Vice President and Creative Director, Estée Lauder.

“The advertising was inspired by the belief that women at every age can be sensuous,” says Lauder. “The women in the ad project a natural, modern sensuality in their own unique way.”

The advertising imagery represents the modern Estée Lauder woman -- a woman who is confident, strong, feminine and proud of who she is.  The models give new meaning to the classic white shirt, a universal sign of elegance and style.

“Each model represents a different side of sensuality,” continues Lauder. “Hilary conveys youth while Carolyn’s classic look communicates elegance.  As an actress, Gwyneth brings an emotional range to sensuality and Elizabeth portrays confidence and wisdom.”

The tagline that compliments the striking photography is: “Estée Lauder Sensuous. Every Woman Wears It Her Way.”

Sensuous Bottle Design
In golden rose, crisp white and sensuous purple, the package design for Sensuous looks and feels as warm as the fragrance within.  The rich contrasting colors, a dramatic interplay of subtle and bold accents, create an impression of contemporary femininity.

The bottle design, also created by Lloyd and Co., features delicate fluting, an Estée Lauder signature that flows diagonally across the glass, adding texture and dimension to the classic silhouette of the bottle. The luminous rose-gold cap is the epitome of simple modern sensuality.
