Etihad Airways is continuing to increase its services to the Asia-Pacific market, commencing double-daily flights from Abu Dhabi to the Thai capital, Bangkok, from 4 June 2006.
Underlining the importance of the popular route, the UAE’s national airline also announced that it will operate its new purpose-built Boeing 777-300ER aircraft between Abu Dhabi and Bangkok.
“Etihad is delighted to be expanding our operations between the UAE and Thailand, and increasing the ties between these two regions. The Boeing 777-30ER (extended range) will allow our Guests to relax on and enjoy Etihad’s hospitality on this long haul route,” said HH Dr. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saif Al Nahyan, chairman at Etihad Airways.
Etihad started its services to Bangkok in April 2004 with four flights-a-week, which increased to daily in late 2005. The world’s leading new airline currently offers 10 flights-a-week between the two capital cities, which will increase to 14-a-week from June.
There is demand for this service from both leisure and commercial sectors, not just between the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, but throughout Etihad’s key global markets.
“Flying with Etihad to Bangkok emphasises our development as an international airline, because many of our Guests to Thailand will be starting their journeys from our European destination cities such as London, Munich or Paris. Abu Dhabi is therefore building on its reputation as a hub joining the west and the east,” added HH Dr. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saif Al Nahyan.
Etihad Airways operates five Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on some of its busiest routes, including its services to London (Gatwick), Beirut, Cairo, Johannesburg and Riyadh.
