The European Union inaugurated a community development center Monday at the Hama Palestinian refugee camp in Syria, a 160,000-euro (130,000-dollar) facility that will include professional instruction for women.
The EU wants "to offer a better future for the Palestinians of this camp through various activities that help the most vulnerable portion of this camp's population, such as physical therapy for the handicapped and basic instruction for women," EU Ambassador to Syria Marc Pierini said in a speech.
Women will be able to learn hairdressing and sewing at the center, which was EU-financed and set up by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees.
A similar EU-financed center was opened at the Daraa refugee camp in southern Syria in November.
Some 8,500 Palestinians live at the Hama refugee camp, out of a total of 375,000 UN-registered Palestinians in Syria -- DAMASCUS (AFP)
