ALBAWABA - The European Union (EU) agreed on Tuesday on a decision to remove all economic sanctions imposed earlier on Syria, AFP reported.
The decision came with the aim to assist the country in recovering following the latest operation against the former Syrian regime, which ended in the collapse of Bashar Assad on Dec. 8, 2024.
Ambassadors from the EU's 27 member states approved a preliminary deal for the move, which should be formally unveiled by foreign ministers meeting in Brussels later in the day, diplomats revealed.
During his visit to Saudi Arabia, US President Donald Trump held a meeting with Syrian Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa and announced the removal of sanctions imposed on Syria.
