Examining key trends vital for student understanding Visiting educator will challenge UAE teaching culture
Dr Ian Jukes will challenge the culture of TTWWADI (That’s The Way We’ve Always Done It) amongst Middle East educationalists in his keynote presentation at the Global Education Forum 2009 (GEF), to be held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, from March 10-12 at the Dubai Airport Expo.
Dr Jukes’ presentation, entitled ‘Living on the Future Edge: Thinking About Tomorrow Today’ explores five global trends and considers their effects on the personal and professional lives of Middle East residents. The effect of these trends on the education system as well as possible approaches to prepare students for these changes will also be examined.
Dr Jukes will present two workshops in addition to his presentation at the Middle East’s premier professional education event. The workshops are specifically designed to support Dr Jukes’ presentation and help teachers to increase their understanding of education in an increasingly digital landscape.
“In a world where change is the constant you can’t trust your eyes because what you see will be replaced tomorrow. You think your eyes are showing you reality, in fact, they are showing you history. The only way to understand the reality of a world on the move is to look for global trends,” Dr Jukes said.
