ALBAWABA - A fire has reportedly broke out in the Kenyan parliament compound after scores of demonstrators were able to break through the police barricades and enter the building.

The violence led to the killing of several protestors at the hands of the Kenyan police, according to a report by AFP, citing a human rights group in the African country.

"Police have shot four protesters, as witnessed by KHRC, killing one. We strongly condemn the police killing," the Kenya Human Rights Commission said on X.

Earlier today, thousands of demonstrators marched through Nairobi's commercial area, pushing back against barricades as they approached parliament, in spite of a strong police presence.

Images on Kenyan TV networks showed crowds marching through Mombasa, the port city, Kisumu, the opposition stronghold, and Eldoret, the home of Ruto.

Last week, protesters around the country staged marches in response to a cost-of-living crisis, demanding the repeal of the financial package.
