Five Iraqi police officers were shot dead and their bullet-riddled bodies dumped in a deserted field in central Iraq, police said Saturday. The bodies of the five men, who were dressed in civilian clothes, were discovered late Friday outside the city of Beiji, 250 kilometers north of Baghdad, police said, according to the AP.

Meanwhile, U.S.-led forces nabbed 33 suspects during house-to-house searches in Latifiyah, the military said Saturday.

The suspects were captured April 26 by a team of U.S. and Iraqi forces in the town about 30 kilometers south of Baghdad and were being held for further questioning, the military added.

On Friday, American troops on a routine patrol in southern Baghdad discovered a blue tanker truck that had been converted into a large truck bomb, the military said. A sapper team destroyed the truck and the bomb, the military said.
