Renowned Saudi company ALBAIK will be sponsoring the upcoming 3rd International Conference of Food Science and Nutrition held in Cairo during the month of November 2008.  During the conference, the regional campaign launched by ALBAIK, ‘Five Steps to Protect Their Food’ will be presented showcasing issues and results of its initiatives.  Dr. Khaled Al Madani, consultant in Clinical Nutrition with the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia and is the Vice President of the Saudi Society for Food and Nutrition, will be presenting the campaign’s case study featuring its key initiatives and findings.

The conference will presented a number of speeches and case studies concerning the status of nutrition and food science in the Arab world. International and regional speakers from the medical and food related fields attended and presented various sessions including:  Impact of Food on Health, Food Processing, Food Science and Technology, Dairy Science and Technology, Nutrition and Nutritional Status, Food Safety and Hygiene and Food Toxicology and Contaminant.

Commenting on the participation Eng. Rami Abu Ghazaleh stated:  “At ALBAIK we always strive to provide what’s best for our customers and the public in general.  The launch of the Five Steps to Protect Their Food – Because Safety Comes First’ is a major initiative we adopted in an effort to alert the society on the importance of food safety and proper handling techniques.  As a leading organization that serves thousands of people, daily addressing such issues is key.

The ALBAIK “Because Safety Comes First" safe food campaign alerts the society, the need of having greater care and attention when buying, storing preparing and serving food by asking pertinent questions such as “Do you know that a kitchen cutting board has 50 times more germs than a toilet seat and that one tiny microbe can grow to become more than eight million germs in just one day?”

Other campaign activities included a roadshow that toured shopping malls across the Kingdom, seminars and workshops conducted by leading Saudi food and nutrition experts, and public information food safety messages broadcasted on MBC FM radio by Saudi comedian Youssef Al Jarrah.
