Flash your most original moment Winners Announced
Adidas has announced the winners of its “Flash Your Most Original Moment” competition, a challenge to the public to capture on film their snapshots of originality in Dubai. It was a chance to celebrate Dubai as a city with soul, and aimed to inspire creativity and celebrate the city’s greatest attributes both big and small.
Fifty prize winners made the shortlist, however the winning picture was taken by Rio Marcelo who won an all expense shopping weekend to the global adidas Originals flagship store in Berlin.
On the judging panel was Peter Richweisz (creative director and founder of Desert Fish Magazine) and Jeremy Horton (art director, Impact BBDO). Commenting on their choice of winning image, Peter Richweisz said “The photo captures a unique moment of overlapping random people’s lives. All the characters have their own story merged into one unrepeatable composed frame. I liked the style diversity of the group. It is a classical approach which makes photography such a strong language and medium of memory.”
Jeremy Horton agrees, stating “The spread of all different nationalities in one frame is a perfect encapsulation of the diversity of Dubai’s population, something which is a truly original aspect to the Emirate.”
Three runners up were also chosen by the judges as special recognition for their personal favourite pictures.
Eduard Ramos’ ‘life saver training’ image was chosen by Peter Richweisz. “It was quite a narrative image, requiring the viewer to try to figure out a story behind the picture and that is always original,’ he said.
Jeremy Horton opted for Fatema Al Budoor’s street scene, which he felt showcased an insight into a different Dubai life. Finally Jose Luis Quiceno received special recognition from adidas for his stylish ‘adidas Originals inspired’ shot.
All three winners received a 500 AED Voucher for the adidas Originals store. All entries to the competition were taken using adidas disposable cameras; the fifty shortlisted winners were displayed on a large adidas Trefoil in the adidas Originals store, Dubai Festival City.
