Fly Emirates Outshine Lord’s Taverners In Windsor Castle Thriller
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh was treated to a nail-biting spectacle of cricket at the annual encounter at Windsor Castle between Fly Emirates and the sport's number one charity the Lord's Taverners.
With the sun shining brightly over the majestic setting, the game could not have been any closer as Fly Emirates clinched victory by just one run in the 30-over match held every year to raise money for disadvantaged children.
Emirates batted first with Amjed Javed scoring a brilliant 82 runs from only 58 balls, helping his team to amass an impressive 239-8.
Former Zimbabwe international Gus Mackay shone with the ball for The Lord's Taverners, taking three wickets for 32 runs as Fly Emirates set a challenging total.
In the end it proved just too much for the Lord's Taverners and despite an effort of 93 runs by former South African first-class cricketer Hilton Ackerman, the Fly Emirates prevailed with Saby Fernandes notching up impressive bowling figures of three for 25.
Fly Emirates - made up of talented employees of the Dubai-based airline – now hold an 11-4 series lead over the charity.
As well as backing charitable causes, Emirates is also committed to the development of cricket across the globe. As an Official Partner of the ICC, it supports all its major tournaments - including the World Twenty20 event currently being held in England.
