Former British Foreign Secretary, Rt. Hon. David Miliband MP, paid a second visit to Masdar. He used his meeting with Dr Sultan Al Jaber, CEO and managing director of Masdar, to praise the visible progress being made on Masdar City and the Masdar Institute and to highlight the importance of the full range of Masdar activities including actions on carbon capture and storage, solar and wind power and investment in new clean technologies.

The former Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, paid tribute to the leadership of the United Arab Emirates in pioneering renewable energy and clean technologies for addressing the world's growing energy challenges.

Speaking during his visit, Rt. Hon. David Miliband MP said, "I want to praise the vision and value of Masdar in Abu Dhabi. Masdar shows a remarkable commitment to research and development, education, financing and implementation of clean energy solutions. The world is taking notice of the momentum building in Abu Dhabi for its leadership in sustainable development and the advancements in clean energy technology."

The former British Foreign Secretary participated in a discussion with senior Masdar staff about the progress made over the last two years, since his previous visit to Masdar. Mr Miliband MP expressed his enthusiasm for the vision and value of Masdar and emphasized his belief that there were significant opportunities for British companies and universities to learn from and partner with Masdar.

"Masdar really does offer the exciting potential to combine ideas and innovation with investment and installation to find the future renewable energy and clean technology solutions the world needs."

Following the discussion Rt. Hon. David Miliband visited the Masdar Institute in Masdar City and met with staff and students to discuss the progress being made. Mr Miliband praised the innovative design, the use of renewable energy and the application of clean technologies.

"Since I last visited two years ago, the Masdar Institute has become a reality and impressive progress is being made. I was delighted to see the new facilities and meet some of the staff and students. There is no doubt that the Masdar Institute – and Masdar City as a whole – will be a very special place to study, research and develop new renewable energy and clean technology projects, test their commercial viability and then make them available internationally," said Mr Miliband MP.

Masdar is Abu Dhabi's multi-faceted initiative advancing the development, commercialisation and deployment of renewable and alternative energy technologies and solutions. The company serves as a link between today's fossil fuel economy and the energy economy of the future - developing the "greenprint" for how we will live and work tomorrow. Backed by the stability and reputation of the Mubadala Development Company, an investment vehicle of the government of Abu Dhabi, Masdar is dedicated to the Emirate's long-term vision for the future of energy.

Masdar City, one of the most sustainable cities in the world, is an emerging global hub for innovation and the commercialization of renewable energy and clean technologies. The city offers a fertile environment to inspire creativity, growth and commercialization opportunities to the companies and organizations operating in this strategic business sector.
