Osama bin Laden met with an Iranian intelligence officer, during the 1990s, in order to try to form a solid alliance to conduct a terrorism campaign against the United States, according to a new book written by a former CIA officer.
The book, “See No Evil” is due out later this week.
The Al Qaeda leader met an Iranian intelligence officer in Afghanistan way back in July 1996 to "hammer out a strategic relationship," according to the book’s author, Robert Baer, a former CIA operative in the Middle East and Tajikistan.
Tajik Islamic leader Abdallah Nuri, who operated out of Afghanistan, mediated the alliance between the sides, and at least one meeting between Osama bin Laden and an Iranian intelligence officer took place. "Although we never found out what happened at the meeting, we knew Bin Laden intended to propose to Iran a coordinated terrorism campaign against the U.S.," the book said.
