French Defense Minister Alain Richard discussed military cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during a brief visit Saturday, the official news agency WAM reported.

It said Richard, on his way home from a visit to India, met the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who called for increased cooperation between the UAE and France "in all fields, notably military and technical".

The Emirati armed forces chief of staff, Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed al-Nahyan, also took part in the meeting.

France and the UAE have been linked by a defense cooperation accord since 1995. The UAE has deployed a 2,000-strong battalion with 14 French-built Leclerc tanks in Kosovo under French command - DUBAI (AFP)
