Freecom grabs two awards at the prestigious red dot design award 2007
German-Dutch IT manufacturer bags the international design awards at first attempt with the ToughDrive Pro mobile hard disk and the super-flat USB Card
Freecom, the leading European IT manufacturers in storage and multimedia fields, has bagged top honor from the prestigious ‘red dot design award 2007’. The company has received the coveted red dot award: product design 2007 prize for its USB Card in credit card format and Tough drive Pro, which adds to the ‘iF Product Design Award 2007’ distinction the manufacturer received in January for the minimalist design of its hard disk range.
The award-winning USB Card in credit card format is merely 2 mm “thick” with an integral USB cable, which can be folded out of the card and back in again after use by the ‘click mechanism’. The world’s flattest USB storage card fits inconspicuously into any wallet along with credit and cheque cards and beats all other USB sticks in the market for exceptional design and functionality.
Axel Lucassen, Vice President Marketing & Sales, Freecom Technologies, said, “To be awarded major international design prizes within only a few months has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations, and represents something completely new for a storage manufacturer. Freecom is increasingly establishing itself as a supplier of high quality digital storage and communication solutions guaranteed to catch the eye for distinctive design.”
“Our storage products stand out significantly from the mass of stereotype IT peripherals in a plastic housing. The ToughDrive Pro is a perfect example of how an original look can be combined with innovative functionality whilst the super-flat USB Card provides a practical solution to a contemporary issue, enabling storage, protection and transport of data,” added Lucassen.
Providing much-needed mobility in accessing data, the ToughDrive Pro is a well-protected and impact-resistant mobile hard disk, which measures merely 2.5 inches with the same integral fold-out design for the USB cable. The extra-robust storage unit even took the ‘red dot: best of the best award’, which is given to winning products in each category for proven outstanding and pioneering feats. Amongst the 50 award winners in the category ‘Computers and Accessories’, this special honor was given to only two other products.
The official presentation of the 2007 red dot design awards will take place on June 25, 2007 at the Essen-Aalto Theater in Essen, Germany, which is set to attract leading names in industry, architecture, design and politics. The winning products will also be on display for an entire year at a special exhibition from June 26-July 23, 2007 at the red dot design museum in Essen, which has been declared as a UNESCO world cultural heritage site.
