French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine has promised to ask the US to take action to end the conflict in the Occupied Territories, according to the London-based daily Asharq Al Awsat.

Vedrine was responding to a letter he received from his Egpytian counterpart, Ahmed Maher, requesting his intervention to prompt the US to pressure Israel into halting the killings of Palestinian resistance fighters.

The French minister expressed his country’s concern over the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.

“France, at the request of Egypt, will make contacts with the US to prompt it to take an action to put an end to the deteriorating situation in Palestine,” said Vedrine, adding that he would make contact with the Belgian government in its capacity as the head of the EU to support the Egyptian move to put an end to the escalating violence.

Egyptian Ambassador to France Ali Maher told the Egyptian Middle East News Agency that the letter to Vidrine explained the seriousness of the situation in the region, attributing it to Israel’s “excessive violence, killing and terrorist policy.” – Albawaba.com
