Jewish protestors gathered in front of a synagogue in the southern French city of Nice early Sunday to show support for Israel following the ransacking of a Jewish shrine by Palestinians.
The one-hour demonstration was organized by the local branch of a national Jewish organization to express the French Jewish community's "state of shock" over the destruction of a shrine containing Joseph's Tomb in the Palestinian-controlled town of Nablus.
Police said some 1,000 people attended the demonstration, but the organizers counted some 3,000 participants.
On Saturday, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat ordered the reconstruction of the tomb, which fell victim to an angry mob after the Israeli army pulled out -- NICE, France (AFP)
