France’s Rugby Sevens team returned home praising the hospitality and enthusiasm shown to them during their time in Dubai this week.
The team’s final engagement was a party hosted by Nexus, the region’s largest independent financial advisor, which was the team’s sponsor for the event. Held at the home of Nexus owner and CEO, Mahmoud Nodjoumi, the event also attracted a number of leading figures from the region’s financial community.
Despite heavy rain during the competition, French spirits remained high throughout the prestigious Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens event.
“This year’s Rugby Sevens competition was memorable for both the tough conditions and the passionate support. The weather was wet, but the welcome was very warm,” said Vincent Roux, captain of the French Rugby Sevens team.
‘Les Bleus’ continued to play their renowned style of free-flowing rugby throughout, reaching the final of the Plate competition on Saturday where, despite an early try by Bogdan Leonte, they were eventual runners up to Samoa, by 26–7.
Special guests at the party included the ‘Banda Lous Berrettes’ – a brass band of French rugby supporters who follow the team on all of their domestic and international travels – in recognition of the French team’s travelling support extraordinaire.

As a sponsor, Nexus also hosted a hospitality area during the Dubai Rugby Sevens weekend.
The Dubai Rugby Sevens ran from Thursday 30th November to Saturday 2nd December with South Africa running out as 31-12 winners over New Zealand in the Emirates International Tournament – this after first denying the England team a hat-trick of back-to-back wins in Dubai by eliminating them in the semis.
