MBC2, the world's only free-to-air movie channel and part of the MBC Group, steps up the excitement on primetime TV this April with the premier of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy, a visually stunning dramatisation of JR Tolkien's classic tale. The trilogy was a huge critical and box-office success, establishing record ticket sales and winning the Academy Award for Best Picture with the third instalment, The Return of the King.
The Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the Ring kicks off the triple action treat on 1 April, 23:00 KSA. The dramatic saga begins when an ancient ring thought lost for centuries was found. The ring turns out to be the One Ring forged by evil Lord Sauron, and must be returned to the mountains of Mordor to prevent the dark lord from reigning once more. The difficult task fell on the nimble shoulders of hobbit Froddo Baggins (Elijah Wood). A fellowship among men, hobbits, dwarves and elves was forged to protect Frodo and his hobbit friends when they embark on the journey to destroy the powerful ring. Watch this thrilling movie featuring spectacular visual and digital special effects only on MBC2.
Amazing action continues on MBC2 with the second film in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy - “The Two Towers” - at 23:00 KSA time. In this sequel, the fellowship has been broken, leaving Froddo and Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin) alone to destroy the One Ring. The Uruk-hai, evil Sauron’s minions, encounter Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) who have made friends with the Rohans. Gollum, the creature who discovered the ring, tracks Frodo and Sam down in search of his ‘precious’ ring, but is captured by the Hobbits and used as a way to lead them to Mordor. The action sequel won the Oscar award for best sound editing and best visual effects, and was nominated for best editing.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy reaches an amazing climax in “The Return of the King,” on 15 of April at 23:00 KSA. Sauron sets up his final assault on the Middle Kingdom, but the alliance of men, elves, dwarves and hobbits is restored, ready to battle Sauron’s army. Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam continue to carry the One Ring towards Mordor, misguided by the scheming Gollum. The fate of every living creature in the Middle Earth will be decided once and for all as the Quest of the Ringbearer reaches its final destination. The movie won 11 Oscar awards, including the coveted Best Picture.
