GAHS issued new authorization for healthcare providers

The General Authority for Health Services for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi announced yesterday that 8 hospitals, 26 medical centers and private clinics and 16 pharmacies had authorization from GAHS to participate in the Health Insurance Scheme. Furthermore, GAHS announced that 7 hospitals, 7 medical centers and private clinics and 16 pharmacies can deal with the basic health insurance product policy as mentioned in the table below, this after their submission of competitive prices for medical services which is in line with the basic product policy. Authorizations were issued upon receipt of all required documents and proof of commitment to operate according to the executive Regulations of the Abu Dhabi Health Insurance Law. GAHS is currently studying additional applications, and will continuously publicize additional authorized institutions.

GAHS had also announced that according to the Health Insurance Law, only authorized healthcare services providers are entitled to provide healthcare services pursuant to the health insurance scheme. GAHS will issue a certificate of authorization once the application of the healthcare providers has been approved, the certificate will be valid for one year and renewable under the same terms. GAHS has also announced that to obtain authorization to operate in the Health insurance scheme, applying healthcare providers must hold medical malpractice insurance; they must have been subjected to the recent field of inspection that GAHS conduct periodically, in addition to their strict adherence to all clauses stipulated in the Health Insurance law for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

GAHS declared that all government healthcare services providers are authorized as healthcare services providers under the health insurance scheme effective 1/07/2006 for a period of 1 year. All concerned hospitals must apply for licensing through GAHS’s authorization procedure after the end of that period.

The authorized healthcare providers agreed to work with authorized health insurance companies providing basic and enhanced health insurance policies. On the other hand, government healthcare service providers shall only transact with the national health insurance company “Daman” for a period of five year.

The Authority also will monitor the authorized healthcare providers throughout their period of authorization to ensure their compliance with the executive Regulations of the Health Insurance Law.

As the first phase of implementing the Health Insurance scheme approach ending, and the second phase is about to commence next month, GAHS would like to thank the Governmental Entities, the authorized Health Insurance providers, Hospitals, and medical centers for their active participation and cooperation in working towards the successful implementation of the Health Insurance Scheme.
