Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) initiated implementing a tender of applying layers of asphalt mix using basalt marbles with a cost of JOD 2,090,000.

Director of Road Maintenance Department, Engineer Ahmad Khreisat, expected that GAM will resume the pavement works on 40.000 m2 as per a tender at the commercial center in Al Sweifiyeh, which include the streets: Princess Taghreed, Salah Seheimat, Abdel Rahim Al Haj, Said Al Mufti, Tareq Al Jundi, Subhi Al Omari, Isehaq Al ‘Athmat, and Jacob M’amer.

He declared that GAM will initiate the works of the same tender in Al Shaab and Said Kheir Streets in Dabouq, next the Medical City, upon finalizing its operation in Al Sweifiyeh.

Khreisat mentioned that putting the tender into action is ongoing day and night, during the hours when there is no traffic jam, and in cooperation with the Traffic Department.

Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, previously announced GAM’s 3 tenders which were requested to restore and maintain the main streets of Amman using the basalt marbles instead of the lime stone.

The Mayor added that basalt endures for longer duration, and it is renowned for the high standard specifications, such as resisting friction and corrosion, preserving environment and city sustainability through recycling its components with abrasion process, once it is expired.

Mayor of Amman pointed out that executing the 3 tenders, which are expected to be finalized by the end of this summer in the main and important streets of the Capital, is to be carried out according to scientific methods and with specific criteria, namely its constructive status, and the number of cars commuting on these streets.
