Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) affirmed its approval on issuing licenses for the plastic factories in Sahab and Mwaggar regions, provided that the environmental requirements determined by the Ministry of Environment be met, and that violators make good (on their violations), giving them ample time to correct any wrong action or lack thereof.

GAM stressed its keenness on the cleanliness and safety of the environment, and emphasized the reason behind its previous decision to ban the licenses issuance, was for health and environment protection purposes, especially when many claims were reported on the plastic factories situated in housing areas, and that they have many negative impacts on the health of these areas’ inhabitants, like the noise, the bad odors, and the dangerous emissions, in addition to the visual pollution resulting from the accumulated wastes.

GAM clarified that 29 licenses have been issued for factories in Sahab and Al Mwaggar upon making sure that they comply with the environmental requirements.

GAM called on the factories’ owners to resort to the directorates of the two regions to amend their conditions according the requirements to obtain the necessary permissions.

GAM stressed its concern with the health and safety of the citizens, simultaneously with its support to the national industry and encouraging it to best serve the public interest.
