GAM Celebrates National Days

Deputizing for the Mayor of Amman, the City Deputy Manager for Cultural, Social, and Sports Affairs at the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), Eng. Haitham Jweinat, patronized the celebration organized by the Directorate of Culture at the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on the occasion of the Royal Accession to the Throne Day, the Army Day, the Arab Revolution Day, and the Independence day.

The festivity included a number of speeches expressing pride in the national occasions that reaffirm national unity and the strength of the social fabric.

The speakers referred to the meanings and lessons of independence and the role of the Hashemite in building and developing the country, reinforcing achievements during their reign, and perseverance in building and developing during the rule of HM King Abdullah II, the Rein- forcer and Achiever of the generations' hopes.

The Executive Director of Culture, Samer Kheir reviewed, in his speech, the role of the cultural centers of GAM in rendering cultural services to the society, and their efforts in reinforcing the meanings of national occasions in the hearts and minds of the youth and students through joint programs with the concerned agencies.

He pointed out that the centers give opportunities to the local talents, and polish and develop such potentials through effective and target oriented programs.

GAM Council Member Myassar Al Sa'di, on her part, said that the independence embodies pride and honor to all Jordanians. To her, independence is a motive for the continuation of the march of struggle and giving under the leadership of HM King Abdullah II

The celebration witnessed the presentation of a documentary reviewing the history of Jordan during the period 1921-2010, and highlighting the developments that Jordan saw in all spheres.

Also in the festivity were a number of artistic activities, poems, and folklore dances (Dabkat) presented by the two choral bands of Al-Ashrafyieh Cultural and social Complex and Wadi Al-Hadadeh Center, Center Bedouin Band, in addition to performances titled (The Birth of Cavaliers) by Sahab Cultural Center, and a play titled Ana Al-Urdon (I'm Jordan).

The celebration was concluded by the signing of a cooperation agreement between GAM and the charitable Development Families Society for the purpose of strengthening communal work in partnership with the local society.

The agreement, signed for GAM by Engineer Haitham Jweinat, and for the Development Families Society by Mrs. Myassar Al Sa'di, personifies cooperation between the public and private sectors in providing care and welfare, advice and guidance, positive awareness , and training for the poor families in the local societies, in addition to reinforcing their productivity to enable them to socially and economically participate in the sustainable development within an appropriate institutional environment.

On the sidelines of the celebration, Engineer Jweinat inaugurated an art exhibition by the artist Bsharah Al Najjar who reflected, through his paintings, popular and heritage areas deep rooted in Jordan in general, and in Amman in particular.

There was another art exhibition by the artist Jamal Al 'Ekour, titled " Nuhasiyat" (copper materials), during which he highlighted many Jordanian landmarks speaking of heritage and eventful epochs that Jordan witnessed over the ages, by using cooper in his paintings.
