Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) resumes establishing sidewalks and renovating others in some main and important streets of the Capital at a cost amounting to a quarter million JOD.
Director of the Construction Department, Eng. Mohammed Rahahleh, said that the streets under construction fall within the regions: Abdoun, Swefieh, and Basman, some of the most important and vital streets that witness active touristic and commercial movements, with a length of 6 Km.
He also pointed out that these works are part of the Department’s annual plan for this year, which includes founding, renovating, and maintaining the streets’ sidewalks to cover all GAM regions.
Eng. Rahahleh clarified that the final phases of rehabilitating the sidewalks of Princess Alia and Abdel Hamid Sharaf Streets are underway with a total cost of 200.000 JOD.
He emphasized that these sidewalks are executed with high technical specifications; public transportation stop stations have been founded within the road furniture project which GAM recently awarded its tender.
In the same context, Eng. Rahahleh mentioned that GAM started the execution of maintenance and construction works of the stairs in the regions: Basman, Yarmouk, and Wadi El Seer, with a total cost amounts to 150.000 JOD, in addition to rehabilitating the sidewalks and middle islands and a number of intersections in different regions of GAM.
According to Rahahleh, GAM completed the installation of a pedestrian bridge on Jordan Street, close to Iftaa’  Department, with a cost of 30.000 JOD. Soon, two pedestrian bridges are to be installed in Zahran Street (between the 7th & 8th intersections), and in Prince Hassan Street (Madaba) next to the rehabilitation Center of Jwaideh, with a cost of 64.000 JOD.
